Where to donate luggage, suitcases and bags in India
Updated 7 October 2026 · 4 min read
Suitcases, trolley bags, duffels and backpacks last for years, but most homes have one or two that never leave the loft. A bag that still zips and rolls is genuinely useful to a student leaving for college, a family travelling home for a festival, or someone moving city for work. Here is where to donate luggage and bags in India and how to make sure they get used.
Is it worth donating?
Check the zips, the handle, the wheels and the lining. A suitcase with working zips and wheels is worth giving even if it is scuffed. A broken wheel or handle is often a cheap repair, so say so in your listing rather than throwing it out. A bag with a broken frame, a missing zip slider or a torn base is usually not worth passing on.
Empty every pocket, remove old tags and luggage stickers, and wipe it inside and out before you give it away.
Where to donate luggage and bags
Give it away directly to someone nearby. On Trezow you can list a suitcase or backpack for free with a photo and your area; people near you request it and collect it, so it is used within days rather than sitting in a donation bin.
Ask locally: residential society or RWA groups, college and hostel groups (students leaving for internships often need luggage), and community kitchens or shelters that support people travelling for work or treatment.
Charities and NGOs that collect household goods sometimes accept bags, especially backpacks for school children. Call before you go, because many only take specific items.
School bags and backpacks
School bags in good condition are among the most wanted items before a new academic year. List them in May–June and early in the school term, and mention the size and age group.
When a bag is beyond use
Remove metal parts such as zips and buckles where you can, and give fabric bags to a textile recycler rather than the general bin. Hard-shell cases are plastic: ask your local recycler or scrap dealer whether they take them.
Frequently asked questions
Where can I donate an old suitcase in India?
Give it away to someone nearby on Trezow, offer it in your society or college groups, or ask local charities and shelters that support travellers. Make sure the zips and wheels work, or say what needs fixing.
Can I donate a suitcase with a broken wheel?
Often yes: wheels and handles are cheap to repair. Say clearly what is broken so the person collecting knows before they come.
Who needs old school bags?
Families before the new school year, and NGOs running education programmes. List school bags in May–June for the best chance they are used.
Have a suitcase or bag you never use?
Take a photo, note anything that needs fixing, and list it for free. Someone nearby will put it to use.
