Where to donate household items in India: kitchen, garden and more
Updated 7 October 2026 · 4 min read
Every home collects things that still work but are no longer needed: a second pressure cooker, extra steel plates, a mixer from before the upgrade, garden tools after moving into a flat. They are useful to students, first-job movers and families setting up a home. Here is where to donate household items in India so they are used, not stored or thrown away.
What is worth donating
Kitchen utensils, steel and glass containers, pressure cookers with good gaskets, working small appliances, garden tools, lamps, curtains, bedsheets and decor. Clean everything and check that appliances switch on.
Do not pass on chipped glass, non-stick pans with peeling coating, or appliances with frayed wires; recycle those instead.
Where to donate household items
Give them directly to someone nearby on Trezow: list the item with a photo and your area, and a neighbour collects it. Kitchen sets and small appliances are snapped up by students and people setting up a first home.
Society and RWA groups, college and PG groups, and local Buy Nothing groups also work well for quick hand-offs.
Charities, shelters and community kitchens sometimes need utensils, bedding and appliances. Call first to ask what they currently accept.
Garden tools and plants
Garden tools, pots and planters are welcome in community gardens, schools with gardens, and among neighbours who are starting balcony gardens. Plants and cuttings can be given away the same way; see our guide on free plants and seeds.
